DLA is working with a local business owner to convert the vacant MBTA Newton Highlands railway station into two handicap-accessible office spaces. The important historic building, designed by H. H. Richardson’s firm, will be renovated to modern standards of occupancy while enhancing the historic fabric of the building. DLA’s proposed scope includes site work, complete exterior building restoration, handicap accessibility, interior reconstruction, and installation of signage and lighting. This project required a Special Permit from the Newton Board of Aldermen, and extensive reviews and approvals by Massachusetts Historical Commission, Newton Historical Commission, Newton Neighborhood groups, and the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board.
