NEWTON ARCHITECT NAMED TO TWO AREA HISTORIC COMMISSIONS
West Newton, MA  (July 11, 2003)

Donald Lang, AIA, whose Donald Lang Architects, Inc. has been operating in Newton since 1991, has been appointed to the Newton Historic Commission.

The 10-member commission, which is comprised of Newton realtors, attorneys, residents and architects, is charged with the review of all city-wide development involving any demolition on structures over 50 years old (circa 1953).

The appointment was made in May by David Cohen, mayor of this affluent Metrowest city of 100,000, becoming effective in July. Lang’s tenure on the commission is open-ended.

Lang has also, since 2001, sat on the Chestnut Hill Historic District Commission, which reviews projects of all sizes, from fences to multi-million dollar residential projects in the largest enclave of Colonial Revival homes in the U.S.

In addition to expertise in the preservation and renovation of historic homes and public buildings (the renovation of Wellesley Lower Falls Center is a current example), Mr. Lang’s firm also specializes in the design of mid-scale restaurants, like Newton’s popular Pho Pasteur bistro and sushi bar. The firm has recently been named architect for The Purple Shamrock in Boston, and the Governor Bradford Inn, a large, landmark dining room in Provincetown
